Scripted in the Skies: How Transits Activate Your Birth Chart

  • Spheres of Fate Astrology

Every individual's birth chart holds the key to their life story. Astrological transits act as a catalyst, activating your life's unfolding piece by piece.

Your birth chart

Your birth chart is a reflection of the cosmos the moment you were born. The arrangement of your birth chart describes the kinds of experiences, emotions, relationships, opportunities, challenges, and circumstances you will have in this lifetime. Each astrological placement in your birth chart carries a range of possibilities along with it.

Example- imagine an individual has Mercury in Aquarius in their natal chart. In this case, they would be predisposed to explore:

  • abstract concepts

  • eccentric skillsets

  • innovative travel methods

  • social networking

  • friendship, teamwork, and altruism

  • scientific or futuristic subjects

  • rebellious and individualistic learning paths

As demonstrated above, one astrological placement can play out in so many different ways throughout one's lifetime. In the example provided, the individual with Mercury in Aquarius could discover new concepts through a science program one year and a charity group the next year, as both topics are Aquarian in nature. The point is, all things Mercurial in this individual's life (learning, communicating, community, transportation, etc) will reflect Aquarian themes. Each archetype in astrology holds a vast range of possibilities, though within the same category.

What is a transit?

Transits reflect the current movement of the cosmos, as celestial bodies are always in motion. Your birth chart remains the same forever. Though the current motion of the cosmos (transits) activates your natal chart as time moves forward, acting as a trigger to all of your natal potentials. As the planets transit different zodiac signs in the present, they traverse through a specific house of your birth chart (because each house in a birth chart is occupied by a different zodiac sign) and may aspect certain planets in your birth chart as well. Astrologers can display the transits on the outside of your birth chart on astrological software to showcase the movement of transits around your birth chart.

There are twelve houses in an astrological chart. Each house in a birth chart corresponds to an area of life, therefore the planets' transits highlight certain life topics depending on which house they are moving through.

Astrologers can look to past transits to understand what was impacting an individual's life in previous years, look to current transits to understand events in the present, and future transits to predict upcoming experiences. Just as one can rewind and fast forward a movie, astrologers can evaluate the planetary transits of any time period thanks to modern astrological software and science!

Putting it all together

  1. Each transit carries a unique energy. Astrologers must first evaluate the qualities of the transit in question. For example, Jupiter in Cancer is a transit that brings emotional growth, creative expansion, and maternal guidance. This baseline energy will impact the collective for the duration of the transit, though in different areas of life and in different doses depending on how this transit interacts with one's birth chart specifically.

  2. Each transit traverses a certain house in one's birth chart. The themes associated with that house become activated in one's life. To figure out which area of life will be impacted by a transit, find the zodiac sign in your natal chart that the transiting planet is currently moving through and the corresponding house. For example, Jupiter is currently transiting the zodiac sign of Cancer (on April 16th, 2025). If an individual's 7th house is occupied by Cancer in their birth chart, this means that the Jupiter in Cancer transit will activate 7th house themes in their life- themes of relationships and contracts.

  3. Lastly, a transit can also make aspects to one's natal placements. Aspects in astrology showcase the angular relationship between celestial bodies. This concept goes beyond the scope of this blog, but it's a crucial factor in evaluating how a transit will impact your life. If a transit is making supportive aspects to the placements in your birth chart, positive outcomes will unfold during that time frame. Conversely, if a transit is making difficult aspects to the placements in your birth chart, more challenging outcomes will unfold in that time frame. Some transits will aspect your natal placements more strongly than others, meaning certain transits will have a greater impact on your life while others will be more subtle. For example, if the Jupiter in Cancer transit makes a conjunction aspect to your natal Moon in Cancer (a strong aspect to a very personal planet), experiences such as creative growth, expansion related to home and family, opportunities to improve your health and well-being, and uplifting emotions will enter your life.

The following list details how each general celestial transit impacts an individual on a basic level. *Remember that the zodiac sign involved will add to the expression of each energy*
